Motherhood Musings

From the moment he was born, Jonathan captured my heart. I was a little nervous, since he came to us through adoption, and wondered if I would feel like his mother. I wondered if others would see me as a legitimate mother, or some sort of impostor. These apprehensions melted quickly and have never returned. Being a mother to Jonathan has affirmed to me again that love comes from God and Him alone. It was His plan all along that Jonathan would become our son. He prepared our hearts for him and poured in love for him, way before we ever knew him. That love has grown deeper each day. I can't help but marvel countless times throughout the day that God has entrusted this precious life to Jonathan and me. We pray for the ability to shepherd his heart as diligently as Christ does for us.

My Lietuenant

As Jonathan and I move forward with our hopes of his becoming an Army Chaplain, I am struck in new ways of the sacrifice our military men and women are making every day. I am also experiencing in a personal way the sacrifices their family makes as they navigate the ability to love and to let go a little. Jonathan had my heart the first time we met and he smiled at me. He holds it still just as tenderly, even when love for God and soldiers calls him away.

There's a First for Everything

The first time we introduced cereal to Jonathan, he was thinking, "Could I just have my bottle, please?"

These are pictures of the first of many milestones we will celebrate during the years ahead. The first time he sat by himself, the first time he tried using a sippy cup, and the first time he tried to hold the bottle by himself.

Sleeping

I love how at peace he looks when he is asleep.

Looking to the Past

It's so incredible to look back at pictures of Jonathan as a newborn!
It seems like we just blinked and are now celebrating his sixth month of life!
